Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you work?
I co-own and maintain Midnight Garden Atelier, a private studio located in Toronto’s Greektown.
What tattoo subject matter would you consider taking on?
My interests constantly change as I continue to develop as an artist so the subject matter I decide to take on will vary with every booking period. I will only take on projects that I know I’ll do well on. Unfortunately this means I can’t take on every submission. Below is a list of what I would like to do more of:
· birds (small round bois or larger birds of prey)
· classic flowers (rose/peony/chrysanthemum)
· neo-traditional subject matter (daggers, sacred hearts, vases, etc)
· house plants
· animal/pet portraits
· lady heads
· food
· vintage/apothecary bottles
· cottagecore vibes
· witchy stuff
· select neo-japanese subject matter (don’t ask me for a dragon cause I can’t)
· placements that flow with the body
If there’s something outside of this list you’re wanting, feel free to submit an inquiry. I’ll try my best to recommend another artist if I can’t take on your idea.
What is your pricing and deposit policy?
Full day/multi-session tattoos: Priced hourly at $200/hr; approx. 4-6 hours of tattooing per session, depending on the piece. $200 +HST deposit.
Half day: Piece price. $100 +HST deposit.
Please remember to factor in the Ontario HST (13%) while budgeting for your tattoo. Deposits will be deducted from the final price/session.
Your deposit will cover 1 reschedule. Any reschedules must be communicated via email at least 72 hours before your appointment. Exceeding 1 reschedule or less than 72 hours notice will require a new deposit of equal value to re-book. If you choose to cancel or no-call-no-show your appointment, your deposit will be forfeited. In the case of a no-call-no show, you will not be able to re-book in the future.
Deposit are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERRABLE.
How many sessions will it take for a ________ tattoo?
Here’s the cheat-sheet on how long each project may take depending on the size of the placement area and if you’re wanting black & grey or colour. Each session will consist of 4-6 hours of tattooing. I generally don’t tattoo past 6 hours.
full arm sleeve - 8 — 11 sessions
full leg sleeve - 10 — 13 sessions
half arm sleeve (full bicep wrap) - 4 — 5 sessions
3/4 arm sleeve - 5—6 sessions
full chest (shoulder to shoulder) - 3 — 4 sessions
matching/asymmetric shoulders - 2 — 4 sessions
top of the hand - 1 session
(ONE SIDE - inner/outer/side) forearm, bicep, calf - 1— 2 sessions
knee - 1—2 sessions
(front/side) thigh - 2—3 sessions
Anything smaller than these will be piece price.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Here’s the link to my pre-care instructions.
Can I bring your design to someone else to get it tattooed?
Absolutely not. I draw everything to my clients’ specifications or with the intention for me to tattoo it on someone. I cannot control the quality of the tattoo if it’s done elsewhere. Please do not take my designs to someone else to get it tattooed. Everything I draw is to be tattooed by myself only.
Can you tattoo someone else’s design?
No, I will not copy another artist’s work. I always ask for pictures of tattoos you like as well as my own work to use only as a reference point. That goes for previous custom/flash tattoos I’ve done as well. A new design will be created for you so the final product will not be the same as an existing tattoo.
Do you do fix-ups/cover-ups?
At the moment, I’m not taking on any tattoo cover-ups or fix-ups.
I’m happy to cover scars as long as they are fully healed. Please note that during the tattooing process, scar tissue will appear more raised than normal but should subside when the tattoo is healed.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Cash and e-transfer are preferred but credit cards are also accepted. Again, please remember to factor in the Ontario 13% HST when budgeting for your tattoo. Deposits are to be paid with e-transfer for Canadian residents and invoiced for international residents.
